One Day Survival & Bushcraft Class

Do you and your children enjoy watching outdoor, survival, shows? Have you ever thought it would be fun, or horrifying, to go on one yourself?

If so, bring your kids to this fun filled day in the forests of northern Michigan.

You and your children will be taught how to properly build a fire. What better way to put your new found skills to use than to cook your meal over the fire you just built?

The goal of my family bushcraft & survival day is to get families out into the forest to learn about and enjoy the natural world.

We will talk about and practice some of the skills necessary to make use of the bounty of nature. We will also look at some common, delicious, and useful edible and medicinal plants. Many of these plants may grow right in your back yard, or neighborhood. This class is designed for kids of all ages.

If you and your kids want to spend the day in the forest learning some of the skills necessary to thrive in the natural world, this is the perfect outing for you.

This one day class is low key, but packed with learning opportunities. We touch on many of the things students learn in our weekend survival classes. We meet early Saturday morning, and finish up around 5 or 6 pm. This class is great for a family day trip.

This class will take place in the Roscommon State Forest. While the class ends at 5 or 6 pm, if you so choose, you may stay after the class has concluded and spend the rest of weekend camping by yourselves. If you want to do this make sure to bring the proper gear with you, as we will not provice camping equipment.

Some of my fondest memories are spending time in the forest with my friends. We enjoyed countless hours crafting bows and arrows and pretending we were hunting; building shelters (forts); trying to identify plants; fishing and reveling in the forests of our beautiful state. These activities sparked a love of the natural world in me that I want to pass on to younger generations. I believe the best way to preserve the natural world is to nurture a love of the outdoors in our children. This is why it is so important to me to teach classes like these.

Sincerely,
Kirk Wahl

Come out and build wonderful family memories while learning about the natural world.
